MAGISTRATE’S COURT

REEFTON CASES (Onr Own Correspondent). REEFTON, Sept. 28. Mr. W. Meldrum, presided at the Magistrate’s Court, yesterday. For being found on licensed premises three offenders found in the Criterion Hotel, were fined in one case £2 with costs 10/-, the others costs 10/-. For being found on the Southern Cross Hotel, one was convicted and ordered to pay 10/- costs and two at Globe Hotel were convicted, one being fined £2 with costs and the other ordered to pay costs.

George Osborne pleaded “not guilty” to (1) being a person other than the licensee of the Globe Hotel he did supply liquor to persons after hours; and (2) supplying liquor to a person apparently under the age of twenty-one years. He was convicted on both charges, being fined £2 and costs 10/on the first, and £1 and costs 10/- on the other.

David Moore for allowing his cow to wander in Buller Road was fined 5/-, costs 10/-. Norman Dick for allowing his cow to wander in Church Street was fined 5/-, costs 10/-. Edmund Wellesley Reeves v. Southern Mines Development Corporation Ltd. Judgment by default for £32/7/4, costs £4/11/6; Inangahua Hospital Board v. Thomas McCormick, judgment by default for £l2, costs £2/16/-; H.M. the King (Mr. Kitchingham) v. Inangahua County Council (Mr. Phillips) claim £9/11/1. Decision reserved. John Fielding (Mr. Patterson) v. A. Byers (Mr. Phillips) claim £27/4/-. Defendant counter claiming for £22. After hearing evidence the case was adjourned on the application of defendant, plaintiff being allowed £2/17/-, costs.
