MILLIONS FROM LIQUOR
HUGE CANADIAN TRADE. OTTAWA,® August 13. The liquor sold by the Government stores throughout Canada last yeai averaged £2 per capita. The total Government revenue was £15,000,000, of which £8,000,000 enriched the Federal Government, the remainder going to the provinces. One-eighth of all Canada’s revenue vias derived from the trade in alcoholic beverages. The consumption of wine was five- times as great as it was 10 years ago. Convictions for drunkenness increased from 21,000 in 1918 to 33,000 last year. figures are -still far short of the pre-war figures of 60,000 in 1913.
