RUNANGA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent). Mrs. L. Hall returned by Saturday’s express from Christchurch. Mr. Wm. Wicks is spending his term holidays with his parents in Runanga.
Mr. A. Mairs, the Westland Soccer rep, right-half arrived from Ashburton on Saturday.
Messrs L. Gibbons and W. Airns met with injuries to their hands whilst following their employment in the Liverpool State mine, Rewanui on Friday. Residents 'of Rewanui are getting few. A number of families have come ■down from the hill to take residence in Runanga.
Mr. W. Timlin, who was injured last week, is expected to be able to play in the Soccer match against Canterbury on Saturday. Those who intend going in for their underviewer’s or deputy’s certificates have been notified that an examination will take place at Reefton sometime in October.
The S.C.H.S. are holding their annual daffodil show on October 14. The Competitions which are being held by this body promise to be a great success this year. There are five more classes this year than in the past. One of the local competitors, Mr. C A. Airns collected four firsts and a second at the present Greymouth Competitions.
The children’s plain and fancy dress ball which is being held in the Miners’ Hall on Friday night is expected to be a great success. Prizes will be given for the most original and humorous dresses. A lucky spot prize will also be given. An adult dance will follow and Steele’s orchestra has been engaged. The local sawmill is expected to restart shortly, as there is a good deal of milling timber on the property be-Inno-incr in TVTv ’RQ'nIHIIP.
