REEFTON, August 29.

Last evening at the Reefton Drill Shed the Lady Godley Cup for the best shot Avith the .22 rifle Avas presented to Cadet Roy Cairns. Mr. J. B. Auld, County Chairman, in presenting the cup and accompanying medal to the Avinner, congratulated him on his success for the second time in Avinning the coveted trophy and hoped that later he Avould attain such proficiency as a rifle shot to enable him to compete at the Army championship rifle meetings at Trentham. Tavo members of the family have already Avon the trophy and a unique feature is that one held it at Greymouth and a younger brother at Reefton.

Mr. Groves, adjuster for the Royal Insurance Coy. Avas on a business visit to Reefton yesterday in connection Avith the fire at Soldiers Road.

Armourer Sergt. Lyons, of Wellington, passed through Reefton. yesterday en route to Stafford for the funeral of his mother.

Mrs. F. Mayman of Westport, is at present on a visit to Reefton. Mrs. Stallard, of Dawson’s Hotel is making a satisfactory recovery from her recent illness.

Mr. Geo. Crossman has entered Reefton Hospital for further treatment to the left arm injured some months ago.

The bridge across the Maruia River at Willis Croft has been so far completed that pedestrians can walk across and it will he opened for motor traffic in a few days. The new road at Warwick Junction will be finished by the end of the week. -This will cut out the walk through the improvised track through the bush that has been in use and so shorten the car journey to Nelson by about two hours. Mr. Gordon Ladner, recently injured at Blackwater Mines is making satisfactory progress towards recovery.
