JAPANESE COAST STORM.

TOKIO, August 28. A most violent storm raged, on the Hokkaido coast on. Monday night and Tuesday. Seventy fishermen are reported to be drowned. Many boats have been wrecked. Scores of houses were demolished. The railway is badly disrupted.

VANCOUVER, August 28.
“The British Government is ready to hold an economic conference in Canada with the Dominion,” Mr. J. H. Thomas announced to-day in th© course of an address to th© Canadian Club at Montreal. H© stated he had consulted members of the Canadian Government, and had made definite proposals, but added that first such matters should be discussed in Parliament.
