HOKITIKA NOTES

HOKITIKA, August 27. The annual meeting of the KokatahiKoiterangi Winter Show Committee was held on Saturday. Mr W. A. Jamieson, presided over a fair attendance. The balance sheet disclosed a satisfactory financial position. Mr W. A. Jamieson was re-elected President, and Mr J. Fleming Vice-President. Mr J. Monk, Treasurer, Mi - T. Ecclesfield Secretary and Mr R. Drummond auditor, all re-elected. The Committee elected are: Messrs W. Jones, S. O’Neil,. H. A. Boddington, F. C. Marshall, G. Monk, D. J. Smith, D. Weir, T. Furlong, R. Harcourt, E. Crop, Mesdames W. Jamieson, W. Jones, J. Monk, E. Cron, W. Diedrichs, F. C. Marshall, D. Smith, P. Jones, T. A. Ecclesfield, and Miss O. Fleming. Mr James O’Brien, M.P., with Mr Sampson, Engineer of the Public Works Department, visited Koiterangi yesterday morning to investigate the reported menace of the Hokitika river breaking through to the Koiterangi flat. In company with the County Chairman (Mr B. Ward) and members of the Council and settlers of the district an inspection of the locality was made, and the report confirmed. Mr O’Brien was convinced of the gravity of the situation, and promised to bring the matter before the Minister immediately. Mr O’Brien was thanked for his prompt action by the County Chairman, and Messrs T. O’Neil and W. A. Jamieson.
