HOKITIKA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.)

HOKITIKA, August 2.

A serious accident befel Edwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Richards on Thursday night during the interval in “A Kiss for Cinderella.” With other lads he walked towards the wharf near the timber skids and stepped into a drain about 10 feet deep that had. been dug by borough employees for laying pipes, and had been left unprotected either by a barricade or light. The lad fell on his head and was rendered unconscious. Assistance was procured and the lad taken out and removed to Dr. Baird’s who attended him. He was then taken home regaining consciousness about 1 a.m. The tide was rising into the drain and the boy was also drenched. Had he been alone he would have soon perished. The ditch was filled in yesterday morning. The lad is now well on the road to recovery, injury being confined to his head. He suffered a slight concussion and badly bruised face as well as from shock.
