MINING DISPUTES
UNION LEADERS’ FEAR. (Australian Press Association.) (By Cable—Press Assn. —Copyright.) SYDNEY, August 2. Mr. Sutherland, organiser of the Federated Engine Drivers’ Union, in a statement, charged the miners leaders with refusing to move for a settlement of the coal dispute, because oi the fear of facing the victimisation issue, that might arise when a settlement came.
GAS RESTRICTIONS. SYDNEY, August 2. Stringent gas restrictions will be enforced during the next four days. Gas can only be used for three hours in the morning and night. ‘ A hundred persons are to be prosecuted for infringing the restrictions during the past fortnight. TIMBER WORKERS. MELBOURNE, August 1. Timber merchants refused to reemploy a number of strikers actively associated with the gang, which tried to terrorise volunteers. The number thus rejected is seven hundred. The Union is now attempting to have these reinstated.
