OPERA HOUSE.

The story of .‘/The Magic Flame, feature film at the Opera House tonight, opens in a tiny one-ring- Italian circiis playing the, towns along p l 6 Medrterranedri, where Bianca (Vilma Banky)', the tight; rope wdlket and parachute artist, is in love with Tito, the clown (Ronald, Colman). Prince Vittoria, travelling incognito, meets’ Bianca as she lands from a parachute jump and immediately falls, in loye with her. He haunts the circus and incites the antagonism of Tito. When Bianca refuses to succumb to the charms of the Prince, he entices her by a forged note to come to his room at the hotel. Resisting his advances, she escapes by making an acrobatic leap from the window to the limb of a; tree.

Not knowing that the girl has escaped, Tito, goes to her rescue. In the fight that ensues the Prince, in leaping at Tito, plunges through the window and over the cliffs into the sea below. Tito, panic-stricken, escapes from the hotel by making use of his remarkable resemblance to the Prince and donning his uniform. MAORI ENTERTAINMENT.

Greymouth is to be entertained this evening with a programme of items r arely heard on the Coast. A talented band of Maori men and women, representing various tribeb. of the ancient people of our Country, will present in a festival of song, greetings, games and dances, various features of Maori life and worship. Many of the items have seldom been seen or heard by Europeans.

The coming of the party celebrates the 107th anniversary of Methodist Missions in N.Z., and the programme makes reference to the work of tho early missionaries of the three pioneer Missionary Churches, each of whom was at work when the first immigrants arrived. The programme closes with brief items of games, favourite songs' and- liakas descriptive of their home life. GRAND NOVELTY CARNIVAL. Don’t miss the Grand Novelty Carnival next Saturday night, to be held in the Oddfellows’ Hall. A special line of jazz caps has arrived for the occasion. _ The Mawhera Chib are out to make this carnival a huge success. Everything <is being carried out in first-class order. The floor is in splendid order and the Citizens’ full orchestra will make the evening one of the best.

The Runanga Hockey Club will hold a Jazz and Old Time Dance in the Runanga Gymnasium to-morrow night. Mr F. Fletcher will supply the music.
