AVIATION

ANOTHER. N.S.W. TRAGEDY. (Australian Press Association.) (By Cable—Press Assn— Copyright.) SYDNEY, February 10. A Gypsy Moth ’plane, travelling from Melbourne to Sydney, crashed near Goulburn to-day. The occupants weie Captain Cornish (owner) and Mr. G. K. Wride. Both were killed. They had landed at Goulburn for breakfast, and were advised not to continue the flight, owing to low clouds making flying dangerous, as the locality is heavily timbered. It is surmised that they struck a tree top. The plane was seen to crash by the driver of a passing train, which stopped. Men rushed to the scene, and extricated the two airmen from the wreckage. One was already dead, and the other died in a few minutes. Both the deceased were motor traders. Wride was an employee of Dalgety and Co. BALLOONISTS’ MISADVENTURE. (Reed. Feb. 12, 11 a.m.) LONDON, February 11. Three German balloonists, who ascended at Leipzig on Sunday on a short inland cruise, developed a flight across the North Sea and ended in a crash in Aberdeenshire to-day. Shortly after ascending a storm arose, and it was impossible to descend. Driven towards Holland and then to the North Sea they drifted helplessly along the English coast for twelve hours at night, until in the early morning they saw the lights of Aberdeen. The balloon occasionally bumped against hilltops and finally a tree overturned the basket, pitching out the occupants, who were fortunately uninjured. They found hospitality on a farm. The German Consul is arranging for their return. INDIAN FRONTIER ERROR. DELHI, February 11. The Court of Inquiry into the bomb dropping tragedy at Peshawar, found that the disaster was partly due to failure of judgment of certain, officers, who are'being court-martialled. The Army Secretary announced generous grants and pensions to the injured and the dependents of the dead. An Air-force plane dropped bombs on an Indian cavalry regiment, mistaking a signal during manoeuvres.
