GAS MAIN FIRE

SYDNEY WORKERS INJURED. Australian Press Association.) (By Cable—Press Assn.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, February 11. Five men were injured while working on a gas main at Rose Bay, through a spark struck from a pick igniting the gas. The gang were pulling up a roadway which had been undermined by storm water. The two men most seriously injured, William Jones and Herbert Holmes, were Gas Company employees. They were endeavouring to trace a leak from the main under the road. Suddenly the party were enveloped in flames. All were' staggered, and were more or less burned. The flames continued for a couple of hours till the Fire Brigade suppressed them, their task being difficult, as explosions occurred frequently underground, and choking fumes were emitted which made an approach to the fire dangerous.
