FRAUD’S EASY PENALTY. (Special to "Star.”) AUCKLAND, February 12. An earnest plea for admission to probation was made to Justice Blair yesterday, on behalf of Edward John Samuel, aged 50, who pleaded guilty to three out of eight charges (over £2OOO involved) of obtaining credit by means of fraud. Accused was admitted to probation for two years, with special conditions that he should do his utmost to make available to his creditors £2OOO, which it had been said his father w'as prepared to provide, and to pay the costs of the prosecution by instalments. DISHONEST EMPLOYEE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, February 12. Edward James Payton, married, 36, assistant in a store, and who cleaned out the premises in the morning,- was to-day admitted to two years’ probation on the following charges of theft, from a cash register £2/3/6, box of soap, and cigarette papers, from MeDuff’s Ltd., Cuba Street.
