CELOTEX

NO COMPANY OPERATING

BRISBANE, September 6. Tn 1924 numerous glowing statements were made of the immense possibilities in Queensland of the celotex industry, which was to utilise the waste products of the sugarcane mills. It was said that amazing results were assured, and the Premier of Queensland (Mr. Theodore) promised the .company which was being formed by 'Mr 11. E. Armstrong every facility. It was stated that the industry would rapidly develop into one of the most important iii the Commonwealth. That was four years ago, and to-day in the Legislative Assembly the Premier was asked whether he had any information relating to the establishment in North Queensland of factories for the manufacture of celotex, and .when such factories were likely to be established. The Premier said that he understood there had been some hitch between. the Australian and American companies. He did not know the cause of the trouble, but it might relate to patent rights. So far as he was aware, he added, no action had been taken by the Celotex Company itself to do anything in Queensland, nor had the company /notation been made public. Another * concern named Megass Products, Ltd., had secured certain rights over megass in Queensland, and he understood that it was also going to make a board similar to celotex. The future operation of that concern, howevei, was as obscure as the future ol the celotex company, which was unfortunate for Queensland. He did not know the reason, and he wished he could Ji nd out.
