Fire near midnight in the boilerhouse of the Colonial Sugar Refining Coy’s premises in Pyrmont suburb, caused damage totalling £25,000. The outbreak is now under control. CROSSING SMASH. MELBOURNE, October 1

Live were killed in a level crossing accident near Geelong, when a special train crashed into a motor wagon on which a number of people were returning from the Catholic cemetery at Wcrribee, where Cardinal Cerretti had been officiating. The killed are Leslie Hargreaves; 25, Fred Leary, 20, Bessie and Eileen Smallcombo and Helen Kelly, all aged fifteen. Six others of the same families were injured.
