KUMARA NOTES

(Oar Own Correspondent.)

The Fire Brigade children’s plain and fancy dress ball was a great success, for although the weather was atrocious, the hall was packed. Many of the costumes worn by the little ones were strikingly novel and original, and were the subject of favourable comment. . Mr Simon Peters, a former resident of the town, but now residing in Christchurch, paid a visit to Kumara on Tuesday, and left for Hokitika on Wednesday. Mr J. Murphy, of Dillmans, who has been seriously ill, is reported to be on the improvement. Mrs Mulvihill, of the Courthouse Hotel, is confined to her bed. Mr A. Seebeck, who has been very unwell, has now taken a turn for the better, and expects to be about in the course of a day or two. Rev. Mr Vickers of the Kumara Presbyterian Church, proceeds to Invercargill on Monday to attend the Presbyterian Summer School. Mr Vickers expects to be bsent about a fortnight. Meanwhile Mr F. Osborne, of Greymouth, will take the services in the church.

There is no improvement in the condition of Mr J. Hamer, who has been seriously ill for some weeks.
