HOKITIKA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, September 29. Miss Lynn, who left this morning for Timarn, was .yesterday afternoon entertained by the pupils of fllie Secondary Department in the Hokitika District High School, and was the recipient of tokens of esteem from the teaching staff and scholars. The Rector (Mr E. Partridge) expressed regret at Miss Lynn’s departure, and referred to her splendid qualifications as a teacher, and her fine influence over the children. He wished her good health and success in her new sphere of action. Presentations were made by Miss C. Linklater qri behalf of Form 3, Master F. Stapleton on behalf of Form 4. and Master Lester Leslie on behalf of Forms 5 and 6. Miss Thiele also presented Miss Lynn with a token of esteem from the school members of the Y.W.B.C.

Miss Lynn briefly replied, thanking the children for their kindness, and stated her work among them had been very happy. She asked them to attend to their studies. She would always remember their kindness.

Miss Lynn was also entertained by the members of the Methodist Church on Thursday night, when she was made the recipient of a gold wristlet watch and a box of handkerchiefs, the former from the Y.W.B.C. and the latter from St. Paul’s Dramatic Society, of which Miss Lynn was vice-president. In presenting the watch, Mrs G. Knowles Smith (president.) referred to Miss Lynn's good work and extended her best wishes for the future. Miss Pollock, on behalf of the members in the winning playette at the recent Competitions, presented Miss Lynn with a box of handkerchiefs. Mr T. W. Dull (circuit steward of the church) and the Rev. G. Knowles Smith made eulogistic references to the guest of the evening. Miss Lynn, in well-chosen terms, thanked all for their kindness. A programme of music and games and j supper helped to while away a very pleasant evening. Air S. T. Peters (Papanui) who has two daughters on the nursing staff of the Westland Hospital and who has been visiting here, returned home this morning. ]
