Tlie grain and produce markets have been fairly quiet during the week in which operations were practically at a standstill. Farmers are holding and millers being well stocked are not operating. Prices, more or less, nominal are 5/2 to 5/6. Oats show improvement, A Gartons being quoted 3/10Jd to 3/lld, f.0.b.5.i., and B’s 3/5. The potato market is a little easier. The Wingatui is reported to be taking 6100 sacks from Timaru, and a smaller quantity from Lyttelton. It is believed that the market will improve shortly. The price to farmers is £4/15/-. The seed market continues quiet, with little or no business passing. STOCKS AND SHARES. DUNEDIN, August 25. Sales: Reported. Bank of New Zealand 61/6, Dalgety and Co. £l5, Commerical Bank of Sydney 27/-. BUTTER AND CHEESE. Copy of cablegram received, by Dalgety and Co., Ltd., from their London office, dated August 24 Butter. —Market very quiet. Danish 186/- to 188/- (186/- to 188/-) ; New Zealand finest 181/- to 184/- (182/- to 184/-) ; Australian finest unsalted 178/to 182/- (178/- to 182/-); salted 166/- to 172/- (168/- to 174/-) ; G.A.Q. 158/- to 162/- (160/- to 164/-). Cheese. —Market slow. New Zealand white 111/- to 113/- (112/- to 114/-); coloured 110/- to 112/- (HO/- to 112/-) ; Canadian c.i.f. 109/- (106/- to 106/6). SALE OF MILKING COWS Dairymen on the West Coast will have an opportunity on Wednesday, August 29, of securing choice milking cows, when Jeffries and Co. will submit to public competition, 50 head arid two jersey cross bulls. The stock may be seen on Mr. J. W. Kelly’s farm homestead at Kokatahi. For the convenience of buyers a car» will leave the autcioneer’s office, Hokitika, on arrival of the Greymouth morning train.
