REEFTON PROGRESS LEAGUE.

REEFTON, June 26. * The monthly meeting of the Reefton Progress League was held at the Council Chambers last evening, when there' were present: Messrs I. Patterson (chairman), L. E Morgan, J. B. Discaciati, W. J. Duff, J. Noble, Pas. Patterson, C. P. Mori (secretary). The County Clerk, Reeftbn, wrote, stating that (1) the footpaths are being repaired as far as finances are available ; (2) that the matter of light at

the Bank of New Zealand corner has been referred to the Electric Light £3) re camping place for motorists at Strand Reserve, the reserve was vested in the Domain Board and suggest that the League communicate with that body; (4) re horse track to Alexander- Mine, that application is being made to the Mines Department. The Minister of Public Wroks wrote regarding starting work as the Junction end of the Buller railway, That same was being considered. The Minister of Public Works forwarded reply re fence at the Police Station, that same would cost £53 10s, an<J as a new Police Station, was to be erected near the Post Office he could not see his way to incur that expense on- a work that was not absolutely necessary. _ The Buller Progress League wrote expressing appreciation of Mr Mori’s attendance at the conference of Progress Leagues at Westport. It was resolved that representations be made to the Minister of Justice that Mr W. B. Auld, J.P., be appointed coroner for the district; that a letter be sent to the Postmaster at Reefton asking that the Department be communicated with re tlip telephone again reinstated at Big River for the convenience of the residents there; that a latter be sent to the Minister of Justice expressing pleasure at the assurance of the construction of the new Police Station; this League would like to know the date of the commencing of the construction of the new station and pointing out that- the ground at the present Police Station would still need fencing; that the Minister in Charge of Pensions be written to and asked to appoint the Clerk of the Court as Deputy Registrar of Pensions at Reefton. That a letter be sent to the Highways Board asking them to undertake the repair of ffie footpath on the Buller Road from the District High School to the Railway Station. That the Postmaster-General be written to asking that the same privileges for cash on delivery business through the Post Office as are extended to business people of Great Britain. That a congratulatory letter be sent to the manager of the Golden Coast Dairy Factory on his recent successes at the recent Dunedin and National Dairy Shows at Palmerston North. That a letter be sent to the Secretary of the Farmers’ Union asking them to take up the matter of the eradication of the blackberry pest, and that a letter also be sent to the Minister of Agriculture asking a subsidy of £2 10s per acre for the blackberry in lieu of the introduction of pests to cope with the blackberry question.
