HOKITIKA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, June 20. During Saturday night the home of Mr and Mrs J. Shingles, of Koiterangi, was destroyed by fire, the occupants (Mrs Shingles and Miss Wall) escaping in their night attire, Mr Shingles being away at the time Ohly a little clothing and some bedding was saved, the lire having a big hold when discovered. It is surmised that the fil e originated at the back of the building, where iihere had been a fire during the day. The Hokitika Municipal Band played a programme at the Westland Hospital on Sunday afternoon, to the delight of patients, staff and visitors. The band was afterwards entertained at afternoon tea.

That auspicious event, that of presenting a silver cradle t to the Mayor and Airs Perry, takes place at the Town Hall to-morrow evening.
