LAWYER WOUNDED BY WIFE.

,NEW YORK, April 4

Mrs Esther Wilson, socially prominent in New York and Washington, a big-game hunter ip Africa and an Arctic explorer, last night shot and seriously wounded her husband, Mr Dallett Wilson, a New York lawyer, after a quarrel in the' latter’s office. After the shooting Mrs Wilson sat quietly at her husband’s desk with Uie revolver in her hand, and awaited th<j arrival of the police. When police officers entered the office she is alleged to have explained her action by declaring that her husband had been neglecting her, and jvhile he remained deaf to her pleading to live with her again bad refused to get a divorce. Mr Wilson’s employees said that there was a spirited argument lasting for two hours before they heard two shots fired.

The couple were married in 1911, after both had been divorced. She was formerly the wife of Mr Douglas De Forest, the millionaire Wall Street broker, and was a social favourite. It was a great surprise when Mr Wilsop. who was counsel for many large corporations and attorney for Mr August Hecks.cher, the well-known philanthropist, was sued for divorce by the first Mrs Wilson as co-respond-ent.

Mrs De Forest and Mr Wilson were married soon after the decrees were granted, ajjd until yesterday's events, there was no ’ suggestion that their romance had ended. In 1925 Mrs Wilson undertook a six months’ exploration trip in the African jungle, where she Jj.agged several lions. Yesterday she said that she planned the trip in an effort to win back her husband, but that he let Eer alone. Although Mr Wilson’s wounds are serious, it is believed that he will recover.
