OPERA HOUSE. Not for many months have patrons of the Opera House been offered a picture in the cast of which such a popular quartette as William Haines, Claire Windsor, Harry Carey, and Claire McDowell has appeared. Such a delightful screen offering is “A Little Journey,” coming to-night only. Claire Windsor last seen in “Tin Hats,” gives an excellent performance as Julie Rutherford, a rich girl suddenly made poor. She plays every scene with grace and understanding. SUNDAY NIGHT. Gregory Rogers’ story of a young Irishman’s fight for romance and pugilistic honors, of life on the East Side of old New York of twenty years ago, has been picturised by “Hogan’s Alley,” which will be shown at the Sunday night picture benefit in the Opera House. The original story was a comedy-melodrama of simple folks, temporarily confused by the artificial ways of society. MONDAY AND TUESDAY.
That John Gilbert is the most astonishingly versatile actor on the screen to-day is amply borne out by his portrayal in “Bardelys the Magnificent,” a Rafael Sabatini romance, that will be shown in screen form at the Opera House on Monday and Tuesday. The story is as unique and colorful as its action. A gay Frenchman wagers his entire fortune and worldly possessions that he will melt the heart of Lady Roxalanne, the most beautiful and coldest lady in France. The carrying out of his determination is depicted in a fascinating manner. FRED SMITH’S DANCE ORCHESTRA The above Orchestra scored another success at McKane’s Hall, Cobden last evening, when they played to a large crowd of enthusiastic dancers. Encores were numerous and all the latest music was played. All the members of this excellent combination acquitted himself admirably, a special feature being the violinist Mr Alex Munro. This evening another dance is being held at the United Pavilion, when the Orchestra will play continuous music.
