Last Friday evening, the Public Hall, although of commodious proportions was filled to its utmost capacity, by the large number of residents who gathered to see the local amateurs in their concert given in aid of the tennis funds.

The concert was very creditable and the party are to be congratulated on the talent displayed in their entertainment. The opening choruses “How do you do,” and “Make Yourselves at Home,” given by the company, who were arrayed in orange and black pierrot costumes were well rendered, bringing well merited applause from an appreciable audience. Mr. Frank Ford and Miss Jean ' Graham supported by Trethowan and Robertson, were well received in a jazz number entitled “To-night’s my Night with Baby,” As a Bolshevik, G. Robertson, supported by other members of the company showed to advantage in a humorous burlesuqe entitled “Halrmonious House Hunters.” “In a Little Spanish Town,” proved a very interesting and preity number, the audience appreciating the efforts of Miss Win Graham and Mr. T. Trethowan in their dance and solo respectively. “The Merry Month of May,” was a well balanced item, the maypole dance being an extra attraction. The play from lan Hay’s novel “Happy Go Lucky,” was undoubtedly the item of the evening the cast being as follows: —Mr. Welwyn, D. S. Clay; Mrs. Welwyn, Mrs. Clay; Tilly Welwyn, Miss Saunders; Percy Welwyn, F. Ford; Grandma Welwyn, Miss S. Berry; Bailiff Butler, T. Trethowan, Lady Mainwaring, Miss E. Tilly, their daughter was the star of the cast and her acting was worthy of note. Bailiff Butler proved himself a humorist much to the consternation of the Mainwaring i and Welwyn families. The rest of the cast proved themselves well suited for their parts the acting on the whole being admirable. “The Tea Shop,” presented a cosmopolitan gathering, Englishmen, Scotchmen, Americans and Frenchmen being prominent. Miss A. Finnerty’s ballet dance was one of the outstanding features of the evening’s entertainment.

Other jazz numbers given by the company were as follows: “The Doll Dance,” “She’s Got It,” “Meadow Lark.” Solos given by Mr. Tennent and Mrs. Northcroft were well rendered and duly appreciated by the audience, the coiicert party appreciated their sportsmanship as they journeyed from Wataroa to help, with the evening’s entertainment. Many thanks are due to Mesdames White and Berry who treated the party to a dainty supper at the conclusion of the concert. The success of the concert party was mainly due to the untiring efforts of Mr. and Mrs. Clay. A very enjoyable dance was held at the conclusion of the concert which lasted till the early hours of morn.
