—— —-——— RAILWAY ELECTRIFICATION (Special to ‘'Star.’’) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 25. A start was made to-day to electrify the railway from Christchurch to Lyttelton. The first poles to carry the overhead wires were placed in position by a’ gang of railway employees. Poles lie on each side of the track from Woolston to Heathcote. Very soon they will stand in parallel lines over a portion of the job! When that work is done, the gang will work from Woolston to Christchurch. There is a shed of corrugated iron facing the specially constructed siding at Woolston. has been erected for the purpose of holding material, alongside the big stack's of poles, although a start was made in the erection of poles to-day. A gang- on the job on Sunday, works the train tipping the shingle required for concreting at intervals along the track. G. Wyles, A§st--Signal Engineer at Headquarters in Wellington, has been supervising the electrical scheme. AERIAL CADETS Ten young men started to learn to fly at the Wigram Aerodrome this morning. For the next three months, they will be instructed as cadets into the mysteries of aviation by Capt. J. L. Findlay and Capt. M. Buckley. They will live at the aerodrome for three months, during which time they will be taught flying, in order to fit them for commissions in the New Zealand Territorial Air Force. Next year they will undergo another three months course, after which they will be gazetted as officers.
