STOLEN CAR
TWO YOUTHS CAPTURED. fPer Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 12. After an exciting motor chase from Newmarket to Onehunga, two youthful joy riders in a small car, were arrested hiding under a church at 10 o’clock on Saturday night. The car was owned by Wylde Browne, of Remuera, and it disappeared from the city at 7 o’clock. It was identified by its number by two sonstables, who enlisted the assistance of a passing motor car and gave chase. The fugitives, observing the car in pursuit, traversed several back streets, suddenly doused their lights, but were located. Then they rushed from the car afoot, with two constables close behind. They were caught after they had scaled the chiirch gate, and surrendered without* resistance. LATER— Joseph Robert Salter and Harley William Dear, whos ages were given as sixteen, who were caught after a long chase on Saturday night, pleaded guilty this morning to having converted a car valued at £212 to their own use. Other charges of similar nature were stated to be pending against the accused. Mr. Cutten S.M. refused the request for the suppression of names, and granted bail, fifty pounds each, on remand.
