AMUSEMENTS

OPERA HOUSE If you want all the thrills of the circus, go to-night and see “Spangles.” “Spangles’ hits right at the top-notch of screen acting, including such wellknown screen figures as Hobart Bosworth, Gladys Brockwell, and a newcomer Emmet. “Spangles” is no educational offering, it has as its reason tor being a very interesting and human story. Action, characterisation, human interest, startling! climaxes, ’.ai’.ghs—all are in “Spangled” and the oldsters will find as much to admire in it as the children, for whom as has been said, it will be as good as a day at the circus. SUNDAY NIGHT The Simplicissimus Cafe, one of the notorious resorts in Vienna, is the scene of much of the “Crimson Runner,” to be shown at the Sunday night picture benefit, in the Opera House. Priscilla Dean is provided with another of the colourful type of role for which she is famous, as a sort of feminine Robin Hood. MONDAY SPECIAL Hollywood added another to its amazing motion picture sets when the Russian village for “The Volga Boatmen” was built, one of the biggest technical achievement in motion pictures. “The Volga Boatman” was originally inspired by the song of that name, and it is an original story of Konrad Bercovici, the celebrated author. METHODIST JUBILEE Services of more than usual interest are being held to-morrow in connection with the Diamond Jubilee of the St. Paul’s Methodist Church, whose first minister, the late Rev. J. T. Shaw, was stationed at Greymouth in ISG7. A service of Invocation will be held in the Church at 8 a.m. to be conducted by the Rev. G. E. Brown. At the 11 o’clock service, the Rev. W. Greenslade, Chairman of the North Canterbury District, will be the preacher. The young people and the Bible Classes have special meetings during the afternoon. In the evening the Service is being held in the Town Hall when the Choir, assisted by an orchestra will render well known anthems and Miss Hopgood and Mr. Hadland will sing. Mr. Greenslade will again be the preacher. We are sure that many of his old friends will take this opportunity of hearing their friend of earlier years preach the Jubilee Sermons. Mr. Greenslade is well known in Greymouth and to-dav holds a high position in his Church being the Chairman of one of the most important districts, North Canterbury. REEFTON PARISH DRIVE In response to several requests, the Reefton Parish Drive Competitions will include competitions in recitation as follows: —For boys and girls under fourteen and for boys and girls under nine.
