FAMILY ENDOWMENT. SYDNEY, July 22. The New South Wales Executive Council,- at a special meeting, gazetted the Family Endowment Act, which will operate from, to-morrow. The allowances will be payable, and the tax on employers will be collected as from to-morrow. The first payment under the Endowment Act will be made on . September 1. LABOUR CONFERENCE. SYDNEY. July 23. The Unity Conference of the Australian Labour Party, which was summoned by the Federal Executive in the hope of settling the faction dispute in New South Wales branch, meets to-day. It is expected that about four hundred delegates from all parts of the State will be present. The conference will probably be divided into three sections; Conroy supporters; Seale supporters, and Militants led by J. Beasley. The last two coalesced in support of Mr Lang, while Conroy supports Mr Mutch and the Australian
Workers’ Union. ENGINEERING DISPUTE. SYDNEY, July 22. The daily hire strike has spread to the engineering works of Briton Ltd., Waterloo, where the engineers refused to resume work after being paid the first week’s wages under the daily hire system. MELBOURNE, July 22. The Arbitration Court made an order restraining the Amalgamated Engineering Union and six shop stewards at the Suhshine Harvester works from doing dr continuing to do anything in the nature of a strike. The application, which was by the employer? arose through certain em-ployees.-refusing to work with other employees who were contented to work. 48 hours weekly.
