LIQUOR BILL
AT OLD PEOPLE’S HOME. The amount of the bill for liquor in connection with the Old People’s Home was discussed by the Grey Hospital Board at its meeting a month ago, and the subject was again referred to at last evening’s meeting, when Mr. G. R. Harker asked if there was any report available. He understood that the liquor requisition cards were to have been presented at that meeting. Mr. J. P. Jrviiie stated that he had made enquiries at the Home, but the inmates said that they received no liquor. Mr. R. McTaggart stated that he had also made enquiries, and the old men told him that they had not seen liquor at the Home for twelve months. Mrs. K. O’Brien said she understood tile old people were given liquor as medicine when they were sick. Mr. J. Brislane said he did not think they could' tell whether it was whisky or water they received. Mr. Irvine suggested that the liquor bill be’reduced to £l2 per month. (It is understood that it amounted to £2l odd during the past month.) Mr. F. L. Turley maintained that the Board could not fix a definite amount. The Chairman (Mr. J. W. Hannan) said that they must rely on the doctor, and, if they were not satisfied with him. they must get someone else. Mr. Turley said be had discussed the matter with the doctor, and the latter accounted for the increased use of liquor by saying that it was taking the place of more expensive drugs. Mr. Harker said that reflections had been, cast on the doctor, and his object in asking for the liquor requisition cards was to endeavour to clear Dr. Moore. It was decided that the cards should be preesnted to the next meeting of the Board.
