DOBSON MINE
PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION. The preliminary examination in connection with the exploration of the upper levels of the Grey Valley Collieries at Dobson, to ascertain that they are clear of fire, prior to air being admitted to the mine after the flooding, was carried out this morning by the rescue party from Denniston', and was satisfactory. Mr J. A. C. Bayne, Chief Inspector of Mines, is in charge of operations, and is assisted by a party of five men experienced in the special and hazardous work of exploring a mine in which fire has taken place. The complete exploration of the unwatered portions of the mine will be carried out during the next few days, when it is hoped the report will be re-assuring, and will permit the resumption of operations in the mine, which was rendered idle owing to an explosion and fire on Friday December 3 last. *
