WEST COAST v. ’VARSITY (Chch)
'the first union team from d University will be seen in action in Greymouth on Saturday next, when Christchurch ’Varsity take the field against the Wes.t Coast. Last year the ’Varsity team had a fine record, defeating every team in the Christchurch competitions, with the exception of the Old Boys, with . whom they drew. They also beat Otago University, winners of the Dunedin championships, and Victoria College, runners-up in Wellington. This year’s team promises to be a fine side. On Saturday, at Lancaster Park, they defeated Old Boys, last year’s premiers, by 23 to 7, scoring five good tries. The backs are brilliant in attack arid specialise in the passing game, and with Bennett, Beuth and Galbraith behind the scrum, can be relied on to play attractively. A fine scoring man in Loveridge, who has represented Taranaki and Canterbury, will be seen out on the wing. The forwards are a- good lot, and play fine dashing football. The team is accompanied by Mr George Mason, manager of thd All Black team to California in 1913, J. Bifi-rbwS club captain, and W. E. Alexander, vice captain and manager.
