McManus;, of the Greymouth Railway Station staff, left this morning on holiday, for South Canter- ' 'bury., , -• ■ ? r -j '■■■- - Dr. Acland',/who has been on a professional yteit to Greymouth, returned to Christchurch by to-day’s express; \ ■ t-' ■’ A London cablegram stated that Mr Reginald Cheyne Berkeley, Liberal M.P. for Nottingham Central, had married Mrs Clara Digby. Mr H. Mears, formerly of the Greymouth Railway staff, who has been visiting relatives in Westport, returned this morning to Christchurch. Mrs. L v 'Mercer, of High Street, received /news yesterday of the death at Palmerston North of her father, Mr. /A. Koberstein. Mrs. Mercer left this' morning for Palmerston North. Mr W. G. Malone, of the Health Department, Wellington, who is an inmate of the. Grey Hospital, underwent a further operation last evening. His condition to-day is reported to be slightly improved. Mr A. A. Rouse, of Reef ton, v,as last evening appointed managingsecretary of the Grey Hospital Board. There were fourteen applicants for the position. Mr Rouse is at present a member of the Consolidated Mines Office staff. The wedding of Mr William O’Connor, of the Grey Power Board; staff, to Miss Amy Aicken, of Reefton, took place at St. Patrick’s Church, this afternoon, Rev. Father Maguire Offi- ' dating; The bride wore a frock of helio marocain trimmed with radium lace and the orthodox wreath and veil. She was attended by her sister, Miss May Aicken, who wore a frock of pink crepe-de-chine. Mr J. O’Connor, brother of the bridegroom, was best nian. After the ceremony the . wedding guests were entertained at Herb. Moore’s .Tea Rooms. Subsequently Mr and Mrs O’Connor left for Reefton en route for Christchurch, where their honaymoon will be spent. This morning'the staff of the Royal Hotel presented the bride with a set of silver vafees and serviette rings. A, pretty wedding was celebrated at the Methodist Church this morning at 8.45, the contracting parties being Mr Charles William Crooks and Miss Nellie Gilmore, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Frederick Gilmore, of Arney Street, Greymouth. The bride was ' attired in white silk richly embroider ed, with orthodox wreath and veil. ' She was attended by her sister, Alice, ' z dressed in vieux rose, with hat to 1 z match. Both carried beautiful shower 1 bouquets. Rev. J. F. Martin officiated. ' The guests were subsequently receiv- * ed at the home of the bride’s parents ’ by Mrs Gilmore, who wore a lovely * black and white crepe-de-chine frock, * heavily beaded, and hat to match. The : newly-married -couple left for Christ- 1 church, where the honeymoon will be spent. The bride’s travelling costume t consisted of a vieux rose frock, with 1 hat and coat to match. A reception 5 will be held this evening at the * bride’s parents’ home. Mr and Mrs ’ Crooks will reside at Karoro.
