MOTOR FATALITY
DHIVBR COMMITTED. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 30. Before the Magistrate, Henry Denham was charged to-day with killing David Forsyth and Evelyn Blanch Hildebrand, by an unlawful act on November 6. . This was a sequel to the Riccarton Road fatality on race day. Archibald W. Seiwood, a farmer, also a passenger in Denham’s car, evidenced that he paid accused 5/fare. The car went at a steady speed when it first left. Before reaching Coach corner, witness “picked that the driver had a spot or two.” In turning the corner, the caT went at a go.od speed on the wrong side, then skidded and hit the post. The speed would be about 35 miles an hour. Defective Bickerday, gave evidence that when arrested, accused said: “I suppose I’ll get ten years for this.” Constable Patterson said that he found a full bottle of Tyhisky on the bottom of the car. Accused smelt strongly of liquor, and was much excited. The Chief Traffic Inspector said that accused Denham held a private driver’s license, and his vehicle was not licensed to ply for hire. Another; witness sffid that accused went to the wrong side to pass a car going in the same direction. Denham pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence, and was committed for ffial.
