A pea rifle, whichh e was carrying, accidentally discharged while the bpy was getting through a fence. • OLD MAN DROWNED. j GORE, November ?9. :William Sanson, 70, of Wcndonside, vrjas drowned in Dome Creek, Waikafa, yesterday afternoon. George Arthur Bishop, an elderly married man and a brother of the late Chief Detective Bishop, died suddenly on the road in the vicinity of Millburn, at six o’clock on Satuday evening. The Coroner, Mr Dixon, held an inquest at Balclutha, concerning the death of of Victor Mark Hansen, thirty-nine, who (lied at the Balclutha Hospital on Monday. Evidence showed that the deceased went to a card- party intoxicated, and was told either- to behave or leave. He attempted to strike the President Mr T. Milne, arid fell out of the door on to the pavement, sustaining head injuries which at first were thought to be trtflhig. The. Coroner found that death was due to concussion, and that deceased alone was blamablo. Z HARBOUR COLLISION. AUCKLAND, Nov. 28. The vehicular ferry steamer “Mollyhawk” and the motor launch “Centaur’”, collieded off the Princes Wharf shortly after ten o’clock this morning. Fortunately, before the impact occurred, the Mollyhawk was nearly stopped, but the launch was cdiight by., the steamer’s stern, and sustained damages to her port belting arid also strained her hull. The launch contained about a dozen passengers, whp were considerably frightened. Ox|e, William Afford, aged 73 years, was taken to the hospital, suffering ffom slight injuries to the back. A yoring woman climbed on to the Mollyhawk’s' deck and then fainted. ■N. AUCKLAND RECLAMATION. WHANGAREI, November 27. The Minister of Agriculture yesterday inspected areas of land reclaimed

by means of step-banking and dredging froni the river by the Harbour Board. ' He gave it as his opinion that the areas should, in time, become very fertile. The Government had acquired from the Board a small area of five acres for experimental purposes. The Government had no<. undertaken the reclamation of such land up to the present, but if this experiment were a success, there were many thousands of acres that could be won on the North Auckland tidal frontages, and in other parts of New Zealand.
