The Director of Technical Education advised that the Public Works Department kad been asked to proceed with the sketch plan and estimates for the hostel buildings. The Canterbury Board of Education wrote advising that the Board could not see its way to carry out the repairs to the manual building as! requested by the Board. On the motion of Air Turley, seconded by Air Duggan, it was decided that the sign appearing on the doorway of the building referred to be chiselled off, as it led to confusion as to where the Grey Technical School was. On several occasions people had gone there am! waited for meetings when they were being held in the Technical School proper. The Visiting Committee reported that the grounds were being got ready for sowing the grass ; levelling was being completed, and with some fine weather would shortly be in good order. It was recommended that good pictures be hung on the school walls, with the object of improving the aesthetic sense of the children. It was suggested that some of the children’s parents and friends might like to present a few’ suitable prints for the purpose. Air AV. Kyle and Airs Carr were re-

elected the Visiting Committee for the ensuing month. The Principal reported as follows: The school opened after the term holidays on the 6th inst. The school is at present without the services of a manual instructress, consequent on the retirement of Aliss Jolly. Arrange-

ments have been made with Aliss Roche to take over some of the dressmaking classes, but several manual classes in cookery at both Hokitika and Greymouth have had to be discontinued meantime. Air T. Reed is acting as relieving woodwork instructor vice Air L. Clark, on sick leave.
