ADDINGTON MARKETS. (Special to •’Star.") CHRISTCHURCIIi Match 3. The National Mortgage arid Agency Company, Ltd., report on to.day’s Addington sales: — hat Cattle.—The yarding was much lighter than for some time, 390 head , being yarded, compared with 420 last “ week. The light market caused a brisk ’ demand and prices, advanced 30/ to £2 a head. Extra steers * to £l9 17/6. heavy £l5 to'£l7, medium to £l6, light £B' to £lO 10/, extra heifers to , £l4 7/6, ordinary to £ll, extra cows to £l2 2/6, prime to £ll, light £4 15/ to £5. Fat Lambs: A medium yarding and a keen sale up to schedule was reported. Extra lambs to 31/10, heavy to 29/, medium to 28/, light 23/ to 25/. Fat Sheep.—Only 8g races were yarded- A keen sale with a rise in prices all round lip- 1/6 to 3/ a head. Extra wethers to 37/7, prime to 33/, medium to 29/6, light 24/6 to 26/, extra ewes 27/10 to 32/6, prime 27/, medium to 23/10, light to 18/9. ' Store Sheep. —A heavy entry of ewes and light entry of lambs. A brisk sale throughout. Forward rape lambs to 23/, medium to 17/, cull lambs to 11/7, half-bred, wether lambs to 22/1, good half-bred ewe lambs to 25/, twotooth Romney cross ewes 26/ to 30/, four and five-year-old crossbred ewes to 28/, two-tooth halfbred wethers to 22/8, four and six-tooth halfbred wethers to 24/8. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report : — Fat Sheep.—A small yarding. The sale was the keenest seen at Addington

for some time, and there was a rise of 4/ per head on ewes and 2/6 to 3/ on' wethers. Best wethers 30/ to 33/6, medium 27/ to 29/, light 24/ to 26/, best ewes 24/ to 27/, medium 20/ to 22/6, light 17/ to 19/. Fat Lambs. —A medium yarding, with large proportion unfinished. A keen sale- A large number of West Coast lambs yarded, which sold at prices in favour of vendors, one line from Koiterangi making up to 30/1 for Suffolk cross. Store Sheep.—The largest entry of the season, every yard being full. In sympathy with the Amberly ewe fair, prices all round showed a distri.nct rise of 1/ to 1/6 on lambs and in many cases 3/ on ewes. Few wethers were yarded, but they were also much firmer. Fat Cattle.—The entry was small, totalling about 350 head, principally cows and heifers, with steers in short supply. From the outset competition was keen, and remained firm to the end, values throughput being from

£1 to £1 15/ per head better than at last week, according to quality. Our special correspondent reports: Fat Pigs.—There was a small entry, and the demand was keen both for porkers and baconers. Porkers opened on a slightly better basis than last week’s rates, while baconers sold freely at about last week’s prices. Values were: choppers £3/15/- to £6/10/-, light baconers £3/15/- to.£4/5/-, heavy £4/10/- to £5/12/6, extra heavy £6 to £6/6/-, average price per lb., 6j|d to 7£d, light porkers 52/to 60/-, heavy porkers 63/- to 73/-, average price per lb. 7Jd to BJd. Store Pigs.—A medium entry was yarded, and the market opened firm, weaners especially selling well. Late rates were realised for medium and large stores. Values were: weaners 18/- to 22/-, good stores to 26/-, slips 27/- to 32/-, medium stores 33/- to 40/, large stores 50/- to 55/-, exceptionally large stores to 60/-.

CH.CH. WOOL SALES. CHRISTCHURCH, March 4. Bidding was animated and the market buoyant at the fourth Christchurch wool sale. Continental buyers made the pace willing from the outset and passings were negligible. Crossbreds were Id to 2d better than at the Feb-, ruary sale. Super quality half bred wool showed an advance of about one penny but other grades advanced from IJd to 2d. Pieceo sold well at an advance of Id to 2d. PRESTON ROAD YARDS. The National Mortgage and AgencyCo. had a successful stock sale at Preston Road on Monday ,at which there was a good attendance. Some 20 head of fat cattle, consisting of bullocks, heifers and cows/also 30 fat ewes and 20 fat lambs were yarded, everything being sold at auction. The quality of the beef was medium to good, and light in weight, ox beef realising up to 35/ per 1001 b, heifer beef up to 30/, and cow beef 27/6 to 30/. The following were some of the sales :—On account of James Hensen, 1 bullock at £9 15/, 2 at £9 12/6, 1 at £8 12/6, 2 at £7 15/, 1 fat cow £6 17/6, 2 at £6 7-6. Oh account of W. T. Begg 2 fat cows at £B,. 2 bullocks at £7 15/, 1 (small) at £5 10/, 1 heifer at £6 5/, 3 (small) at £5 5/, 1 runnei* £4 17/6. On account of the Greymouth Jockey Club 31 fat ewes at 24/9. On account of George White 20 lambs, medium quality and condition, at 20/3. The next sale will be held on' Thursday, March 11, when a better yarding is expected.
