COBDEN TOWN BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Cobden Town Board was held last evening. Present Crs A. G. Gunn (chairman), J. Walker, D. T. Cochrane, 11. Marley, F. L. Turley and H. IL Barrett. Mr M. Minehah wrote applying for approach.—The Chairman of Works explained that Mr Minehan wanted urgently an approach to a hay paddock, offering to supply under timber and labour. The work had been carried out with his permission.—On. the motion of Cr Turley, seconded by Cr Marley, the action of the Chairman of Works Committee was approved. Mrs M. Muirhead asked for improved approach to her residence in Palmerston Street-—Referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. Mrs Cornwall wrote regarding defective drainage and offensive smell in front of her property. —Referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. The Chairman of Finance reported receipts for month of £B6 14s Bd, and bank overdraft £7OO. Arising out of a discussion on imposing 10 per cent, penalty on overdue rates, Cr Turley moved and Cr Cochrane seconded, that a report be laid on the table at next meeting, showing how many ratepayers at the end of the last financial year had not paid their rates, and how many had been charged the 10 per cent, penalty. —Carried. Cr Walker moved that rates are due and payable on March 25, 1926. — Seconded by Cr Marley and carried. The Ranger reported impounding three horses and nine cows. The Chairman submitted a schedule of duties drawn up by the subcommittee (Chairman, Cr Cochrane and Clerk) respecting the combined position of Town Board Inspector (traffic inspector, ranger and dog-tax collector) —Cr Turley moved that the 'Ranger be acquainted by letter of the new position, and that applications for same be called by advertisements in both papers, closing the night previous to next monthly meeting. —Seconded bj Cr Cochrane and carried. It was reported that the Noxious tVeeds Inspector had been in the district and served notices to. eradicate weeds. —Cr Barrett moved that a telegram be sent by the Clerk to the Fields Inspector at Hokitika, asking for immediate action. —Cr Turley seconded-'- —Carried. Cr Marley asked how about outstanding rates; was anything being done? —The Clerk, in reply, said they were coming in steadily. Cr Walker reported that the Cemeterj had been cleaned up, and the refuse had now only to be burned. The Board then went into committee to deal with the report of the subcommittee (Crs. Barrett, Gunn and Cochrane) on sanitary matters.
