GISBORNE, January 30.
The. American Scholz gave a Remarkable display of sprinting in the 100 yds., being beaten by a touch by a competitor who had 14 yards’ start. Time 9 3-5. He won .the 220 yds. In 21 3-5 equalling the Australasian record and the 75 yds. in 7 4-5. Hahn was handicapped too heavily, and had no chance in the longer events. RUGBY FOOTBALL. WELLINGTON, January 30. The belief is current in Sydney that the Maori team, which is expected to go to France, will visit Australia first. Rugby Union officials, however, know nothing of any such intention, and do not think it at all likely.

Rain set in at two o’clock yesterday and stopped all play in the tennis tournament, which will be continued to-day.
