WESTPORT, June 13. Thd coal output from the mines in Westport district last month totalled 54,272 tons 14civt, of which 52,595 tons of coal was exported and the rest retained for local use.

Mr A. G. Sime is maintaining a good standard, of golf. He went round the Orawaiti links in 73, which is a record for the course. All’s Slee also established a new record for ladies, doing th© nine* holes in 42, and the 18 in 88, and carrying the flag on to the 19th hole.

On the East Coast there has been a heavy fall of snow, but the nearest approach to Westport has been the snow on the hilltops. Denniston has had some snow-balling practice, but the heavier falls wefe right on the mountain tops, which are clothed in a mantle of snow.

Messrs S. Plumer and C. Pomeroy, who have been on a six weeks’ visit to Victoria and New South Wales, have returned to Westport. Miss A. McTagagrt has joined the staff of Mr F. L. Lynch, who has commenced business on his own account as a draper. c Mr R. D. Taylor, telephone exchange clerk of the local Post and Telegraph Office, was presented with an illuminated wristlet watch o nthe eve of his departure for Otaki, to which place lie has been promoted to cadet. On making the presentation, Mr H .G Davis chief postmaster, congratulated Mr Taylor on his promotion.
