CHRISTCHURCH, June 14. ’ It is rumoured that the position of Bishop of Christchurch has’ been offered by the Diocesan' .Synod to the Rev.- C. Salisbury Woodward, M A., M.C., Vicar of Peter’s;-Uranlejq Gardens, London. , Dean Carrington, however, says that this report is either conjecture or' a breach -of confidence. _ He declines to confirm or deny it.
Rev. C. Salisbury XVoodward M.A.; MiG., is a Chaplain to the King. He was born in 1878, being the son of it clergyman. He married in 1905, the widow of' Colonel Stewart (Black Watch) blit they have no children. He was educated at Marlborough And Oxford and ordained Deacbn ui 1902 and as Priest' ill' 1903. / He was a curate in Bermondsey; 1902-1905, and subsequently secretary of the South London -Church Fund, . ‘ Chaplain Wadham College, and 'Canon- and Prerector of Southwark -Githedial. He served in France 1 in 1916THE OFFER DECLINED. CHRISTCHURCH, June 1 -- Canon Woodward has declined the offer of the Bishopric of Christchurch.
