WESTPORT, March 24, To-night a complimentary social is to be tendered to the ladies’ committee of the Ruller A. and P. Association. The i ladies each year devote a large amount of time and expense to the Show and in preliminary preparations, and are thoroughly deserving of thia recognition of their good work. Mr T. Marsden and the Misses Marsden (2) shortly leave on an extended trip to Australia. The season’s football was opened on Saturday. The weather was beautifully fine. Players lacked ■ form, although some of them showed that they had kept their training going during the “off season.” Mokihinui defeated Westport by 24 points to nil. Westport was represented mostly by young players, who were beaten by the forceful Mokihinui team both in forwards and backs. At Denniston, Rival Seniors defeated Pirates by the narrow margin of eight points to six. The game, it is stated, was at times on the rough side. ’Soccer players state they will be busy shortly and expect increasing interest in the code. Mr and Mrs Smith, late of Havelock, who have been spending a holiday at Westport, leave to-day for Nelson. Miss M. Atkinson, who has been spending an extended holiday at Kararaea, has returned to Westport to resume duty on the clerical staff of Skilton and Jones. Misses Duncan and Mitchel left yesterday for Wellington on a holiday trip.

Mrs Williams returned yesterday from a visit to her daughter, Mrs Bell, of the Landing.
