MIDLAND LINE
TRAFFIC MANAGER’S COMMENT.

CHRISTCHURCH, March 7. “There is. a fair amount of goods traffic on.the Midland line,” said Mr J. B. Mitchell, District Traffic Manager of Railways to a reporter today. The line is now on the same rates as. the Hurunui-Bluff system.
Concerning the prospects of taking over the Otira Tunnel at. an early date, Mr Mitchell said that he had received . no. information, whatever as to when the Despartment would take charge. . “The present train service of three days a week,” said Mr Mitchell, “is meeting all traffic requirements to the West. Coast.” Speaking of the South line., Mr Mitchell said that the. present serv’ce was meeting all requirements .in the way of passenger traffic.
