DAIRY CONTROL BILL MARTON, September 20. At a meeting of over 100 suppliers of the Rangitikei Dairy Company, at Bulls, there were only two dissentients to a motion strongly favouring the Dairy Control Bill.

At the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., James Carrick McLennan, aged 41, postal officer, was charged with theft of a postal packet. Paper Mills have closed their Riverhead mill and are dismantling the plant for transhipment to headquarters at Mataura. The reason for the change is the difficulty in securing sufficient labour, and the high overhead charges, the plant being driven by steam, whereas at Mataura the Company will use waterpower. FIRE AT CINEMA. AUCKLAND, September 21. An outbreak of fire in the operator’s box at the Capital Picture Theatre, Dominion Road, during the interval last night, caused considerable excitement, a large quantity of films being destroyed. Smoke filled the theatre, but the orchestra continued playing while the patrons macle an exit hastily but without panic. The brigade extinguished the fire which was confined to the enclosed space. The film destroyed was valued at £5OO.
