EMPIRE WIRELESS
MINISTER’S PROMISE. J (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) - LONDON, July 23. Lord Burnham introduced a deputation from the Empire Press Union to Sir L. Worthington Evans. It was re- ( presentative of all the Dominions. 3 Members urged the pressing forward • of the Imperial wireless service. 1 Sir L. Worthington Evans said that ( the question was one of national and Imperial importance. It was imperative to evolve a workable commercial scheme. He denied there had been unnecessary delays. The points at , issue should be settled within, a . month, and thereafter there would be : nothing to prevent the erection of a hmh-power station which should be operative within twelve to eighteen months. The Government’s object m the present negotiations was to secure private enterprise with a minimum of Government control. He hoped that the wireless rate would. always be i lower than the cable rates, though ■ there would doubtless be competition. ,
