ADDINGTON MARKET. (Special to the Star.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 5. The National Mortgage and Agency Company report:— To-day’s Addington sale waa animated, there being a big attendance, and the yards were again filled in every section. Prime beef made about 30/per hundred, although the majority of second quality of which the yaraw were composed did not reach this figure. Fat lamba sold exceptionally well, prime lota making a good Even second quality sold exceptionally well. The fat sheep market was good, with decided improvement. All classes of heavy wethers sold exceptionally well. Exporters operated freely. Still a keen demand for store sheep and tho sale was firm throughvut. Bidding was brisk for forward lambs and wethers; young ewes wwru also in demand and there was a good sale generally. Messrs Dalgety and Co., report: — Another large yarding in all departments, with a good sale for all sheep. Fat Lambs. —Alany prime lines were yarded, and there was an animated sale from start to finish. Prices were very firm; prime lambs from 8d fc B|d over all. A large yarding of fat sheep and a keen eale; best wethers to 31710, good butchers heavy-weight wethers 25/- ie 26/6, prime freezers 21/- to 23/- according to weight, best ewes to 21/-, good butchers ewes 16/- to 17/6. There was a keen demand for freezing weighl which were selling in tho vicinity ol Sid to 3JsdAll overflowing yarding of store sheep every pen being full. A small attendance of buyers but a good sale for forward lambs, also wethers and the best lines of breeding ewes. A number of lines of small lambs and travelled sheep were yarded which were rather slower of sale; best breeding ewes 4,6, and 8-tootn, 20/- tc 24/-, good farmers’ lines 17/5 to 10/-, forward wethers to 19/6, forward rapt lambs to 17/-. An over supply of fat cattle, a good number being big steers but unfinished, aaid for this class, competitioi was slack. Aledium quality and. unfinished steers and also cow beel realised a shade under last week’s prices, only the primest steers making to the previous sale’s figures; extra prime steers made to £l4, prime £8 10s 4d to £l2 4s, medium £0 10s 4<l to £8 ss, lighter sorts ’ £5 to £6 ss, best cows £4 15s to £7 15s>, others £2 5s to £4 10s. Store Cattle.—A few pens of. best sorts, 18 months to two year old, and empty dairy heifers met with keen enquiry, but no quotable lines <f steers were sold. There was a good_ sale lor springing heifers and best dairy cows, close to profit. Alessrs H. Alatson and Co., report:— Store Sheep.—A very large yarding and most classes of sheep were cheaper, but all good classes of station lines sold equal to last week’s rates; best 2-tooth half-bred ewes up to 23/6 (?), others from 15/6 to 24/-, best soundmouth store sheep ewes from 17/- to 23/-, others from 12/7, best storewethers from 15/6 to 19/-, smaller from 13/- to 14/6, best rape lambs from 14/6 to 17/-, others from 12/-, the market generally was not nearly so buoyant as at previous sales. Store Cattle. —A larger yarding than for some time, and the demand generally better, especially for all good classes of heifets. No big entered; 2 year old steers £2 5s to £2 10s, yearling ditto £1 5s to £1 15s, 2 year old heifers to £4 10s, yearling aaid 18 months heifers £2 10s to £3, cows 30/- to £2 ss. Beef.—A similar yarding to that of last week, and the quality generally indifferent. The market if anything, was slightly easier than last sale but vendors generally accepted, tne prices going and practically everything was sold at auction. There waa more than enough for butchers’ requirements ; prime steers £9 to £l2 10s, extra to £l4 ss, medium £6 15s to £8 10s, others £4 5s to £6 10s, prime heifers £5 to £7 15s, medium £3 to £4 10s, cows £4 10s to £7 17s 6d others down to £2 ss. Mutton. —Another large yarding mostly ewes but some excellent lines of wethers were offered. The market was firm all round except for heavy ewes, which did not eljfijt the same competition as at last week. The freezers were again keen on any medium and lighter quality; prime wethers 21/- to 26/-, extra _ 27/- to about 30/-, medium 18/6 to 20/6, others down to 16/-, prime ewes 15/- to 18/6, extra good to 23/-, others from 11/9 to 14/6. . Lambs again showed a good advance averaging Bsd to Bjd over all The advent of another freezing buver for the first thne this season made a considerable difference to the sale.
