GREYMOUTH CLUB’S REPORT. The following is the annual report of the Greymouth Golf Club, to be presented at the annual meeting to be held to-mor-row evening. “The Committee in submitting the annual report and balance-sheet for the season ending 1921 desire to congratulate members upon a most successful season. “The membership is gradually increasing and has already reached a total of 81, viz., 36 ladies, 45 men, and 2 country members. Seven of this number have left the district and have ceased to become members, but from all accounts the vacancies will soon bo filled up by new arrivals and wo have reason to believe that the playing strength of the club will be very much improved. “During the year the West Coast championship meeting was held on our links, and in consequence the expenditure entailed in making a number of improvements was somewhat heavy. The caretaker, Mr S. Cameron, deserves great credit for the good work ho put in, and his efforts wore much appreciated by all those who took part in the meeting, the greens being in splendid condition. “Air A. Sime succeeded in again carrying off the West Coast championship. Miss AL Wylde (a. first-year player) won the ladies’ bogey match, and was the only ladv member of the club to secure a trophy. Air F. J- Parkinson won tho men’s medal match and with Air McKechnio carried off tho four-ball bogey match. “The meeting saw tho inauguration of a> ladies* shield played for under similar conditions as the Dalgliosh Shield. Iho Westport ladies have the honour of being the first to hold it. “Tho Dalgliosh Shield was removed from our keeping by the Westport team, but we hope to regain possession of it again before tho year is spent. “Tho tournament was a most successful one in every respect, a fact that was unanimously endorsed by the visitois. For tbis result great credit is duo to the ladies •f the Afakura Croquet Chib, who undertook the catering for tho splendid and efficient manner in which they carried out their duties; to Air D. AlcKay who took up the duties of secretary at very short notice owing to Air Pratt being laid up with influenza. Air AlcKay s very thorough methods arc so well known that it is quite unnecessary for us to make any comment-; and to our worthy Captain, Air F. AV. Shallcrass, for his untiring efforts. Alembers are very grateful to those mentioned and to all others who in any way assisted to make the tournament the success it was. Alention should also be mado of those members who arranged the entertainment of the visitors, the ball having been pronounced a great success. “At tho previous championship meeting which was held on the Omoto links a complete and detailed account was compiled by Air C. Benzoni and filed in the club match book. His suggestions where improvements could bo effected in the manner of starting the different players and other points proved most valuable, and the Committee did not forget to voice theii appreciation for tho useful iniormation contained in his notes. “The crowning event of the year was the winning of the New Zealand Amateur Championship by Air A. Sime after an exhibition of perfect golf, which gave him the amateur record for tho Shirley course. A full account of his performances may be found in the club’s records, and may be perused by members at any time. Air Sime was formally congratulated by tho committee on behalf of the club, and a social evening was tendered to him by tho members shortly after his return from tho meeting. “In the club matches tho following are the results :— Championship.—Ladies : Aliss Kettle ; men, Air A. Sime. Runners-up.—Ladies, Airs Hannan; men, Air C. Kettle. “B Championship.—Ladies, Mrs AV. Fletcher; men, Air C- AlcKechnie. “Medals. —Alesdames Shallcrass (2), Wickes, Hannan, Thomas and Aliss Kettle. Alessrs Wallis, Oxford, A. Smith, and AV. Oxford, Airs Shallcrass and Air J. Cairney. “Eclectic. —Aliss AL Griffen. One Club Alatch. —Aliss Al. Griffen. “Flag Alatch. —Air D. AlcKay. During tho season home and home matches were played with the Hokitika Club, and as usual proved most enjoyable. “The Honours Board was procured early in the year and now adorns tho walls of the clubhouse. The records were obtained by Alessrs Shallcrass and Cairney, and the club is indebted to them for the trouble they took in seeking out the necessary names to complete the list. “The thanks of the club are again due to the trustees of the Jockey Club for tho privileges accorded to them; to the proprietors of tho “Star" and the “Argus for the publication of notices of the club’s doings during the season; to the ladies of the club for providing the afternoon tea in their usual capable manner; and to our lion, auditor, Air J. F. White, for again assisting the club. “A number of improvements were caroied out early in tho season, the most important being tho erecting of a fireplace. In order to assist in paying off tho amount expended on this latter work a charge was made for afternoon tea among the men members, and tho move proved a good one, so much so that its continuance is recommended to the incoming committee. “The statement of revenue and expenditure submitted by the hon. treasurer is most satisfactory, considering the increased expenditure necessitated by the nolding of tho championship meeting. Tho expenditure amounted to £234 12s 2d and the receipts to £214 Ils 3d. “Given good climatic conditions the, coming season should be very successful in every way, and we trust that our best hopes will be realised. As the West Coast Championship will be held in Hokitika this year it is hoped that members will practise assiduously and that our club will be well represented at the meeting.
