REVALUATION
COUNTY INCREASES. The revaluation of the Grey County was recently completed by the Government valuer, Air James McKay. The new valuation, in most cases, naturally shows substantial increases from the previous valuation which was made in 1912. The land boom, and the high price paid for butter-fat during recent years, induced farmers to improve their land. 'I he result has been that for some time past many farmers have been paying little or nothing in rates. County rating is on the capital value. Increases in valuation are particularly noticeable in the Barrytown district, where owing to the opening of the GreyBarrytown road, farming properties have advanced from £lOO to £lOOO. In Red Jacks Riding one farm has increased from £BO to £I2CO. The Marsden Riding, which was valued at £7,900 in 1912 has advanced to £20,000. Naturally, protests are heard from the farmers concerned. One farmer went to the County offices and demanded an objection paper, greatly agitated that his property has gone up, for rating purposes, from £lOO to £1,200. When it was pointed out that since 1912 he had built a house on the property, fenced and cleared most of it, he saw that he had no case, and tore up a half-filled in objection paper.
