FRONTIERSMEN
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. 1 (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) GISBORNE, June 27. The seventh annual conference of the Legion of Frontiersmen was opened to-day under Sir Andrew Russell. About sixteen were present from all parts of the North Island. In his opening address Sir A. Russell referred to the members’ work in the war and also referred to the value of preparedness. .He paid a tribute to the late Alajor Twisleton. Turning to the present world-wide unrest, he said that the people had not yet found their feet after the chaos of the great war. Instead of drawing together, there was a splitting up not only of the peoples, but of nations. There was a tendency for sectarianism to grow, and it was one | of the worst elements in society when 1 class sot itself against class. As Frontiersmen they believed in patriot- I ism—L>ve of country, unity of Empire > and the maintenance of Anglo-Saxon traditions. It was decided that an official Dominion list of the Legion be compiled and printed for circulation. A r arious remits were carried.
