(Per Bre'ss Association.) MIRAMAR AMALGAMATES. WELLINGTON, August 30.—The orough of Miramar to-day decided to amalgamate with the city, the proposal being carried by 344 votes to 297. Mira mar is the last of the contiguous boroughs to come into, the city. BODY FOUND. TIMARU, August 30.--The body 1 of Boyd Thomson, a rabbiter, who was lost on Mount Nessing run three weeks ago, was found to-day by a musterer near the top of Hakataramea Range, near a well defined track. The search for the missing man had to be suspended a fortnight ago owing to the snow, which disappeared a day or two ago. The body will be brought to Albury for the inquest to-morrow. DIVORCE AND SEPARATION. WANGANUI, August 26.—1 n granting a decree nisi in a divorce case at the Supreme Court to-d;iy, his Honor commented upon the practice of married women who intended petitioning for choree getting a separation order. Ha stated that this was a very dangerous and

unnecessary practice, and a separation order, up to 1913, was an absolute bar to divorce, and was so still, except under a special provision of the amending Act of 1913. If a woman wanted a divorce she should get one, and not a separation order, as there was no object in the latter-. She could get a maintenance order for the guardianship of the children. There was neither sense nor reason in getting a separation order.

, AMENDED 'PHONE RATES. WELLINGTON, August 30.—The following are further amendments in the scale of telephone charges, which take effect from the Ist inst. The announced rates for the first mile, in the case of both business and private connections, remain unaltered, but thereafter a reduction of 2/6 will be made for each quarter mile or fraction thereof. At the four principal exchanges, the minimum rate for business subscribers will be £9 10s per annum for the first mile or fraction thereof. The total subscription of which amounts to a fraction over sixpence per day. The distance over which half-rate connections may be made, namely 25 miles, which was in force prior to the recent amendments had been reverted to.

SHORT DELIVERED CARGO. WELLINGTON, August 30— The Secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce recently wrote to the General-Manager of the Union Steam Ship Coy., pointing out that overseas shipping companies trading between the United Kingdom and New Zealand had increased the limit of their liability in respect to short delivered cargo (on bills of lading) from i's to £lO per cubic foot and from ,£IOO to £2OO per package. He asked that the Union Coy. also consider fav- , Durably an increase of the limit of liability. In reply the General Managor wrote as fololws : "We note your inquiry as to limitation of liability for cargo short delivered in bills of lading used in our inter-colonial service. Up till a short time ago, cur limit was £5 per foot, with a maximum of £SO in respect of any one package; but we have much pleasure in advising you that last month it was decided to double the extent of our liability, ai'd this accordingly now stands at £lO per cubic foot, with a maximum of £IOO in respect to any one package."
