Di'.XHDIX. March 12. The animal eoaterenee of the ladled Fire Brigades’ Association opened at Bub cintiia to-day. The report skiUsl that tin? excess of assets over liabilities was £392 14s 7d, a gainst £576 10s 4;l last year. The membership now was 135 brigades. Out of fewer "than 3000 members 1030 bad enlisted and 67 had been killed and 116 wounded.
The conference decided to appoint a deputation to. wait on the Minister of Internal Affairs, . urging that further efforts should be made to obtain financial assistance from insurance companies towards the upkeep of all brigades, whether under fire hoards or not.
it was decided to bring before the Efficiency Board The question of assisting the Government in the enlistment of eligible members without unduly weakening the strength- of the brigades. A motion was carried disapproving of any brigade superintendent appealing for the exemption of any member eligible for active service.
