Mrs, Wearne, of Cobden, lias -been Vsitbig Reefton where she has been thif guest of Mrs. J. Payne. Mrs. Curtis who has been on a visit to Greymouth to see lier daughter, Mrs. Victor,' returned to Dunedin on Thursday, Private W. Payne of Reefton arrived home on leave on Thursday, where he is visiting his parents before proceeding to England. Mrs. Dempster received'word from the Department . that her brother, Private J. Trevethan is being invalided tfi New Zealand and is expected to arrive about 7th of March.
Word was received by Mr.* Garth, Almira, that his son, Sergeant-Jisor H. F. Garth, was returning, and -will arrive in Auckland by the Arawa on or about 6th of March/ He is coming back os an instructor.
The marriage of Lieutenant Raynor Collin Bell, youngest son of Mr. James Bell, of Foust Home, Reefton, to Miss Yettie -Muriel Whitehead youngest daughter of the late Dr. A. M. Whitehead, oi Petone, was celebrated, at St. Mathew s Church, Masterton, recently, prior to Lieut, Bell leaving New Zealand with the Expeditionary Force. The MisS Alberta - Teasdalo’s Complimentary Concert Committee yesterday afternoon presented. Miss Teasdale with a. handsome hand-bag and a cheque, the latter representing the proceeds of Tuesday evening’s entertainment. The pleasing function took place at* Jiarker’s tearooms, Mr. 0. T. Moss, on behaif of the committee, trusted that the recipient would add greater laurels to her already well-known accomplishments as a soprano singer, and that, in going to Sydney where she would have greater opportunities, aho would eventually rise in her profession and become • one of Australasia’s loading land noted vocalists. Miss Teasdale, in acknowledging the kindly sentiments and presentation, said she' felt more at homo in song than in attempting to - make a speech. She, however, thanked Mr. Moss and the # Greymouth Orchestral Society, Miss Connie Hopkins (accompanist) and the .members of the committee for their good offices in making the concert a /success, .She hoped to improve in the art of good singing although she had been., too highly flattered in being classed with Miss Rosina Burkinan, who occupied a very high and lucrative position. Archdeacon York, in a very effective speech, also wished Miss Teasdale God speed and a successful career. Mr. Nazer thanked the Greymouth orche str a a*d asisiing vocal- ■ istg at the recent concert. Mr, i\|oss replying on behalf of the Orchestra, stated they had been' only too pleased to take part and required no thanks. Miss Hopkins was also presented by the committee will) a memento.in recognition of ber capabilities us an accompanist.
