From the District Health Officer,'at 1 Christchurch re treatment of returned soldier, informing the Board that the patient must report weekly. ‘ The Medical Superintendent reported , that the soldier was medically hoarded on, January 25th and had been granted one ) month’s leave of absence. , Mr Betts moved that the Medical. Superintendent bo informed of Dr Chcs- , son’s letter. ) This was seconded by the Chairman ’ and carried. . From Dr W. A. Conlon, staling that he j was unable to accept leave of absence on , the conditions attached, and that the j Board had misunderstood his letter. , Mr Betts moved “That the resolution '. passed at the last meeting of the Board i appointing Dr Scott to take charge of the j Hospital in the absence of Dr Conlon be rescinded, and that Dr Hastings be appointed.” He said.that it was in order to remove the, antagonism that appeared j to be existing between the medical men, He did not intend that the appointment ( should be permanent, as if Dr Conlon should at any time resign he would move that applications be invited for the position. The letter was antagonistic and he resented it. He was sure that when Dr | Conlon saw that Dr Hastings was up-' pointed superintendent he would take t\ .. holiday. He resented the letter very much. Nurses’ Home be supplied with wood. . • Mr Irving proposed and Mr O'Regan, seconded, that the reqetmt be complied with.—Carried, ' From Thus-, Phillips re title to Hospital lands at Roeftdn, " < From Solicitor to Public Trustee re loan to Hospital, and informing the Board that an Order-in-Council would be required with regard to procuring a better title before a mortgage could be given over the property, • Mr Irving moved that Hie necessary steps be taken to procure the title required, This was seconded by Mr Dunn and carried. . ■ From the County Clerk notifying that W. H. Saunders, of Black’s Point, bad been appointed a member of the Board, , in place of Mr E. J, Seantlehury, re- j sighed.—Received. • • From the-Matron of I lie Hospital asking that three probationers be appointed in place of two, and asking that an in- 1 crease of 10s be made to the wages Of tin* cook- • On the motion of Mr Betts, seconded by. Mr Mclnroc, the increased wages to the cook was granted. ] From Myrtle E. Nesbitt, Emily Langridge, and Ruby Parker, applying tor positions as probationers. Mr Betts stated that as there was a difference of opinion between the Matron and the Doctor on the qualities of nurses and probationers, this matter should be < left with the town members to consult

with the doctor on the matter. • Mr Dunn said that they were in charge of the institution and they should adopt the Matron's suggestion, He moved that , three probationers be appointed, Mr Mclnroe seconded the motion, Mr Hobson agreed with Mr Betts, Me Betts moved, ns an amendment, that' two probationers be appointed, and that the Medical Superintendent and the Town Committee consult as to the apment of a third probationer or a purse. This was seconded by Mr Irving, The amendment was. declared lost. Mr Betts moved that two probationers . bo’ appointed, and that the appointment of a third probationer be letf in abeyance < until the next meeting. .Mr Irving seconded the amendment, which was carried. ' , Misses Langridge and Nesbitt were up- 1 pointed probationers. ' Mr Irving moved that the appointment 1 of a third probationer^! 1 a trained nurse I bo left in the hands of the Town Committee to consult with the Medical Superintendent, with power to net. This was seconded by Mr Betts and carried. MEDICAL OFFICER’S REPORT. The Medical Superintendent V report was read and received, as was the report from the Nurses’ Home at Waiuta. Mr Irving moved that when Mr Fletcher visits Waiuta heattend to sonic necessary sanitary arrangements, and that the articles asked for by the. Matron be provided. . This was seconded by the Chairman and | carried. .. ' ' . The Inspector' brought under the notice j of the Board the case of a woman who hail , paid a substantial sum on a house and had been comnelled to abandon the effort to buy it. He suggested that the person be written to asking that part of the money paid be refunded. Mr Betts moved, Mr Irving seconded. * and it was carried, that the owner be written to asking for a refund. Mr Betts moved that Dr Scott be appointed consulting physician to the Hospital. In doing this he pointed out that this was in accordance with the by-laws i of the institution and the agreement with | the Medical Superintendent.
